Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party will return to power in the state in the 2027 Assembly elections with a “grand majority”. Speaking at an event in Mathura, he said beneficiaries of government welfare and development programmes, including young people, women, farmers and Dalits, would support the BJP in the upcoming polls.

Adityanath highlighted the state government’s focus on investment, employment, tourism and development while presenting these areas as factors behind the BJP’s expected electoral performance. He said Uttar Pradesh had become more investor-friendly, with facilities for investment, skill development and employment increasingly available online. He also claimed that his government had provided employment to around 9.5 lakh young people during its tenure.

The Chief Minister placed particular emphasis on religious and cultural tourism, citing the Braj region as an example of how faith-related activities could contribute to economic growth. He claimed that around 11 crore devotees and tourists visited the Braj region during the previous year, while Uttar Pradesh recorded about 156 crore devotees in 2025. According to him, the state’s religious heritage had created new opportunities for tourism and economic activity.

Adityanath also targeted the previous Samajwadi Party government, accusing it of restricting religious events and failing to understand public sentiment. He alleged that celebrations such as Krishna Janmashtami and the Kanwar Yatra had faced restrictions before 2017. He said his government had restored such activities and claimed that around five crore Kanwariyas participated in this year’s Kanwar Yatra without any untoward incident.

On recruitment and employment, Adityanath said his government had introduced stricter measures against examination paper leaks. He claimed that those found guilty could face life imprisonment and confiscation of property. While criticising the previous administration over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, he said the government had sought to make the recruitment process more transparent and ensure that merit was given greater importance.

Adityanath said the BJP’s development and welfare record would help it secure another strong mandate in 2027. He argued that improvements in investment, employment, tourism and governance had changed the state’s economic and administrative environment. The 2027 Assembly election will ultimately determine whether the BJP can retain power in Uttar Pradesh, with the Chief Minister already projecting confidence in a decisive victory.
