Rising water levels in the Yamuna river have prompted the Faridabad district administration to operate on a 24x7 alert, taking proactive measures to prevent potential flooding. District Commissioner Vikram Singh convened a meeting with officials on Monday, directing them to stay vigilant and prepare for any adverse situations caused by the swelling river.

Singh highlighted that over a dozen villages, including Mohana, Latipur, and Manjhauli, located along the Yamuna, are at risk of being affected. He instructed sub-divisional magistrates, tehsildars, naib tehsildars, and panchayat-level officers to monitor these villages round-the-clock. The administration anticipates the release of 60,000 cusecs of water from the Okhla Barrage and one lakh cusecs from the Hathnikund Barrage on Monday night, which could flood low-lying areas near the river.

To mitigate risks, Singh urged officials to heighten surveillance in vulnerable areas and ensure readiness for relief and rescue operations. He advised residents in villages along the Yamuna’s banks to remain cautious, particularly at night. Essential equipment, including boats, life jackets, and ropes, has been arranged to handle a potential flood-like situation.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed in Basantpur village, with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and volunteers also placed on standby to assist in emergency operations. Singh emphasized the need for comprehensive preparations to safeguard the affected areas as the district braces for the impact of the rising Yamuna waters.
