On International Women’s Day, Leader of Opposition Atishi took a sharp jab at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), highlighting that Delhi’s women are still waiting for the Rs 2,500 monthly financial aid promised during the recent assembly election campaign. The Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, a flagship pledge in the BJP’s manifesto, assured this amount would be credited to women’s bank accounts by March 8, a commitment Atishi claimed remains unfulfilled.
In a video posted on X, the former Delhi Chief Minister reminded citizens of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election promise. “PM Modi assured Rs 2,500 for every woman in Delhi by today, but no one has received it yet,” she said. Atishi painted a vivid picture of women across the capital glued to their phones, eagerly awaiting a bank notification that has yet to arrive. “Delhi’s women are staring at their screens, hoping for that message,” she remarked.
Extending Women’s Day greetings, Atishi expressed skepticism about the BJP’s intentions. “I hope this isn’t another jhumla (empty promise) from PM Modi,” she quipped, urging the central government to honor its commitment. The delay has sparked renewed debate over the BJP’s poll pledges, with Atishi leveraging the moment to question their credibility.
