Devyani Kulkarni, a resident of Vikhroli, experienced a moment of panic when she realized she had left a bag containing 80 grams of gold jewellery, valued at Rs 2.6 lakh, on a Badlapur-bound local train after alighting at Kalyan station in Thane district, Maharashtra.
Distraught, Kulkarni promptly reported the incident to the Kalyan railway police station, where the Government Railway Police (GRP) registered a case and initiated efforts to recover the lost item. The incident highlighted the vulnerability of commuters on busy local trains and the importance of swift action in such situations.
The GRP’s efforts bore fruit when a vigilant passenger discovered an abandoned bag at Badlapur station and handed it over to the railway police. Demonstrating commendable efficiency, the GRP promptly verified the contents of the bag, confirming it contained the reported 80 grams of gold jewellery, untouched and intact. The police traced the bag back to Kulkarni, ensuring a seamless process to reunite her with her valuable possessions.
The successful recovery and return of the jewellery reflect the dedication of the Thane GRP in safeguarding commuters’ belongings. This heartwarming incident, reported on September 2, 2025, underscores the importance of community cooperation and the railway police’s prompt response in addressing lost property cases.
