West Bengal is likely to receive rainfall for another five days as the southwest monsoon continues its withdrawal from the region, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Kolkata said on Tuesday. The weather office forecast light to moderate rain at several places, while ruling out widespread heavy rainfall during the period. Isolated heavy showers, however, are possible in parts of north Bengal.
Eastern Regional Director of the RMC Habibur Rahman Biswas said a low-pressure area extending from Uttar Pradesh to Bangladesh in the lower levels of the atmosphere was influencing weather conditions over West Bengal. A cyclonic circulation over Bihar is also contributing to the ongoing rainfall activity. These systems are expected to maintain moisture and cloud development across different parts of the state over the coming days.
North Bengal is likely to see light to moderate rain across all districts, with isolated heavy showers possible in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar. Several areas have also been warned of thundershowers. In south Bengal, districts including Murshidabad, Nadia, Birbhum, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas may experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms during the next few days.

Kolkata is also expected to receive light to moderate rain, with partly cloudy conditions forecast during the day. The city may see an increased chance of rainfall from Wednesday through Friday. Across south Bengal, rainfall activity is expected to continue until the weekend, while north Bengal could continue to receive showers with isolated instances of heavier rain.
The RMC has indicated that there is no forecast of widespread heavy rainfall during Durga Puja, which begins on October 17. However, light to moderate rain remains possible around Mahalaya on October 10. The forecast could be significant for residents and organisers preparing for the festival period, when outdoor activities and public gatherings are expected across the state.
Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 32.08 degrees Celsius on Monday, which was considered normal for the season. The minimum temperature was 26.06 degrees Celsius, around 0.08 degrees above normal, while relative humidity ranged between 69 and 97 per cent. The weather office is expected to continue monitoring the evolving conditions as the monsoon withdrawal progresses.
