Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna has mandated comprehensive security measures across the state to ensure peaceful celebrations of India’s 79th Independence Day on August 15 and Janmashtami on August 16. With back-to-back events expected to draw massive crowds, the DGP’s directives aim to preempt any disruptions while prioritizing public safety.

In a detailed statement issued on Wednesday, Krishna instructed district and commissionerate police chiefs to map all major events, including flag-hoisting ceremonies, Tiranga rallies, cultural programs, and Janmashtami processions, ensuring robust security and traffic management. Anti-sabotage checks, rooftop deployments, and strict access controls at entry and exit points have been mandated for all venues, with planned traffic diversions to minimize congestion.

High vigilance is ordered at crowded locations such as railway stations, metro stations, bus terminals, airports, malls, cinemas, hotels, and religious sites, particularly temples hosting Janmashtami festivities. Continuous border checks, functional CCTV surveillance, and thorough briefings for check-post staff are also prioritized. Krishna emphasized cracking down on illegal arms and explosives trafficking and verifying tenants in residential areas to curb potential threats.

To address aerial security risks, unauthorized drones, microlight aircraft, and paragliders are banned, with local intelligence units tasked to monitor compliance. Social media cells are activated to track misinformation and activities of extremist groups, with immediate preventive action ordered. Police are coordinating with civil magistrates, municipal bodies, and utility departments to ensure seamless Janmashtami celebrations, including pre-event meetings with temple festival organizers to resolve logistical challenges.

Sensitive and communally vulnerable areas will see enhanced police presence, flag marches, and foot patrolling led by gazetted officers. Drone surveillance and videography of processions are mandatory, supported by bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs. Women’s safety measures include plainclothes deployments, while riot-control equipment and police reserves remain on standby at district headquarters.

These measures come amid heightened national security concerns, with posts on X reflecting public support for UP’s proactive approach to festival security. The DGP’s directives underscore the state’s commitment to maintaining peace during these significant celebrations, balancing festivity with vigilance.
