In a major relief for aspirants, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday approved a one-time three-year relaxation in the upper age limit for candidates applying to 32,679 police and jail posts across the state. The decision, issued under Government Order No. 1/1194447/6-1001(008)24/23, was taken on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to benefit candidates previously rendered ineligible due to age restrictions.
The relaxation applies to the 2025 direct recruitment for Constable Civil Police, PAC/Armed Police, Special Security Force, Mounted Police, Women Constables, and Jail Warder posts. This move is expected to allow thousands of aspiring candidates to compete for roles in UP Police and the Jail Administration, broadening access to government employment opportunities.
The age adjustment has been granted under Rule-3 of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service (Relaxation of Age Limit for Recruitment) Rules, 1992, and follows an earlier notification issued on December 31, 2025. The decision ensures uniform relaxation for candidates of all categories, making the recruitment process more inclusive.

The UP Police recruitment drive will now fill a total of 32,679 vacancies, providing opportunities for men and women across multiple divisions. Officials highlighted that the decision aims to address long-standing demands for age relaxation raised by candidates, political parties, and government representatives over the past several months.
Political observers noted that the move could significantly increase participation in the upcoming recruitment exercise, allowing experienced aspirants who were previously barred due to age limits to now apply. This step is also seen as a response to public calls for fairer recruitment practices.
The Personnel Section-2 of the UP government emphasized that this one-time age relaxation is a proactive measure to ensure a wider pool of candidates can apply, while maintaining transparency and merit-based selection in the recruitment process. Aspirants are advised to check official notifications for detailed eligibility criteria and application guidelines.
