The Uttar Pradesh Avas Vikas Parishad has granted in-principle approval for the construction of a new four-lane bridge over the Hindon River barrage, a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity in the trans-Hindon region of Ghaziabad. Officials confirmed that the 200-meter-long bridge, estimated to cost around ₹51 crore, will be built by the UP State Bridge Corporation Limited. The initiative is expected to ease traffic congestion and provide faster access for commuters travelling between key residential and commercial areas, as well as to Delhi via the Hindon elevated road.
Currently, the Hindon barrage features only a narrow single-lane road restricted to light vehicles such as two-wheelers and bicycles. This limitation has long posed challenges for heavier vehicles and larger volumes of traffic. The proposed four-lane bridge will allow cars, buses, and other medium-to-heavy vehicles to cross the river safely and efficiently. Upon completion, it will serve as a vital link connecting Siddharth Vihar, Vijay Nagar, Indirapuram, and Vasundhara, while also offering a convenient shortcut to the Hindon elevated road for journeys towards Delhi.
AK Mittal, Superintending Engineer of UP Avas Vikas Parishad, stated that the project is likely to be completed within one year following the final approvals and commencement of work. He highlighted that the new bridge will provide stable and enhanced connectivity, enabling vehicles to utilize the two new extensions of the Hindon elevated road. These extensions, each approximately 400 meters long and approved by the Uttar Pradesh government in October 2025 at a cost of about ₹200 crore, will further streamline access to Delhi and reduce travel time and distance for daily commuters.

The project builds on earlier proposals made in April 2025 by senior UP Avas Vikas officials, who had recommended constructing the bridge along with dedicated ramps. These include a ramp-up from the Indirapuram side to facilitate entry onto the elevated road at UP-Gate and a ramp-down on the Vasundhara side for traffic coming from UP-Gate. Additionally, a new ramp-up near Kanawani has been proposed to address the current limitation of only a single ramp-down at that location, which prevents vehicles from ascending the elevated road from certain directions.
This development is poised to significantly alleviate commuting woes in one of Ghaziabad’s fastest-growing areas, benefiting thousands of residents who travel daily between trans-Hindon localities and Delhi. Authorities expect the enhanced infrastructure to boost regional mobility, reduce congestion on alternative routes, and support the area’s ongoing urban expansion.
