Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the 435 MW Gorbea Solar Power Project in Rajasthan’s Phalodi district on Saturday, hailing it as a benchmark for speed, sustainability, and inclusive growth. Developed by Zelestra India, the project, completed in just eight months, spans 1,250 acres and will generate 755 GWh of clean energy annually, powering 1.28 lakh homes and reducing carbon emissions by 7.05 lakh tonnes each year. Operating under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India, it strengthens Rajasthan’s renewable energy framework.
Speaking at the event, Joshi lauded Rajasthan’s pivotal role in India’s energy transition, noting that 70% of the state’s power capacity—totaling 35.4 GW, with 29.5 GW from solar and 5.2 GW from wind—comes from renewables. He highlighted the project’s innovative land-leasing model, which provides farmers with stable income, and its creation of over 700 local jobs during construction.
Joshi praised Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma for driving clean energy reforms, including the Integrated Clean Energy and Green Hydrogen policies and rooftop solar initiatives under central schemes, positioning Rajasthan as a leader in India’s renewable energy revolution.
