The University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared Daksha University (Vocational and Life Skill Education), based in Ranchi, as a fake institution, warning students, parents, and the public against seeking admissions there.
In its latest public notice and updated list of fake universities as of February 2026, the UGC stated that the self-styled university, located at Bhaskar Path, New Pundag, Masibari, Ranchi – 834007, is not recognised under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. It lacks any authorisation from the Central or state government to confer degrees or diplomas. Investigations reportedly found no physical campus or legitimate infrastructure, raising serious questions about its operations.
The UGC emphasized that any degrees, diplomas, or certificates issued by Daksha University hold no validity for purposes of higher education, government employment, or competitive examinations. This inclusion forms part of a broader list of 32 fake universities identified across 12 states, with Delhi topping the count at 12, followed by others in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and more. Jharkhand features only this one entry, highlighting concerns over unregulated entities in the state's higher education sector.

The commission urged prospective students to verify the recognition status of any institution through the official UGC website before enrolling. It advised checking the list of approved higher education institutions and avoiding self-proclaimed universities that promise quick or vocational qualifications without proper accreditation. Such fake setups often exploit aspirants seeking affordable or flexible education options.
This action underscores the UGC's ongoing crackdown on unauthorised institutions amid rising cases of degree mills misleading students. Authorities have called on state governments to initiate appropriate measures against such entities. Students already enrolled or considering admission are recommended to seek transfers or refunds where possible and report suspicious activities to the UGC or local education authorities for further protection.
