Two women were killed and at least 15 passengers were injured after a bus carrying pilgrims overturned in Junagadh district, Gujarat, on Saturday, police said. The accident occurred when a Nilgai suddenly crossed the road, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
According to police, the bus was transporting around 40 passengers from Bhavnagar on a religious pilgrimage to Dwarka and Somnath. The incident took place near Rahij village, a few kilometres from Mangrol town, at around 3 PM.
Officials said the driver attempted to avoid the animal but lost control of the bus, which then overturned on the road. The sudden movement of the Nilgai is believed to have triggered the crash.

Deputy Superintendent of Police D.V. Kodiyatar confirmed the fatalities and injuries. He said, “Two women died on the spot, while more than 15 passengers were injured. They have been referred to Junagadh Civil Hospital for treatment.” The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.
Following the accident, local residents rushed to the scene to assist the injured and informed the authorities. Emergency services quickly arrived, and an excavator machine was used to help rescue passengers trapped inside the overturned bus. Police have launched further investigation into the incident, while the injured passengers are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
