Two college students were injured after a speeding motorcycle rammed into an electric pole in Karnataka, with the dramatic crash captured on CCTV and widely circulated on social media. The incident occurred in Mangaluru city, where footage shows the motorcycle travelling at a high speed along a relatively clear stretch of road.
Within moments, the rider appears to lose control of the vehicle, causing it to veer sharply toward the roadside before crashing directly into an electric pole. The force of the collision threw both the rider and the pillion passenger off the bike, leaving them injured and motionless for a few seconds after impact.
Bystanders who witnessed the crash rushed to the spot to provide assistance and alerted emergency services. The two students were subsequently shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. According to local authorities, both sustained injuries but were reported to be in stable condition. Police officials said they are monitoring the situation and awaiting detailed medical updates.

Preliminary investigations indicate that overspeeding may have been a primary factor in the accident. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage frame by frame and recording statements from witnesses to determine whether additional elements — such as road surface conditions, possible distractions, or mechanical failure — played a role. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
The incident has reignited concerns over reckless riding and speeding among young motorists in Karnataka’s urban centres. Traffic police have repeatedly emphasised the dangers of high-speed riding, particularly on city roads that may appear clear but can quickly present unexpected hazards. Officials have also stressed the importance of adhering to speed limits, wearing protective gear, and maintaining vehicle control at all times.
Road safety experts note that collisions involving fixed roadside objects, such as electric poles and dividers, often result in severe injuries due to the abrupt deceleration involved. With CCTV footage of such incidents frequently going viral, authorities say the focus must remain not just on the visuals but on reinforcing responsible road behaviour. Police have reiterated that strict enforcement and public awareness are essential to reducing the growing number of speed-related accidents across the state.
