Authorities in Uttarakhand have temporarily suspended the movement of pilgrims to three major Himalayan shrines, Badrinath, Kedarnath, and Hemkund Sahib, following continuous heavy rainfall across the region. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of devotees travelling along the sensitive mountain routes. Officials said the suspension will remain in place until weather conditions improve and a detailed assessment of road safety is completed.

According to reports, vehicular movement towards these pilgrimage destinations has been halted at multiple checkpoints across the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib routes. Pilgrims already en route have been stopped at safer locations while authorities monitor landslide-prone stretches and rising water levels. The administration has deployed teams to inspect roads, bridges, and vulnerable zones that may have been affected by persistent rainfall.

Officials have stated that the decision was necessary due to the increasing risk of landslides and road blockages in hilly terrain, which often occur during periods of intense monsoon activity. The region’s fragile geography makes travel particularly hazardous under such weather conditions, prompting authorities to prioritise preventive action over continued movement. Emergency response teams and disaster management units remain on standby in case of any incidents.
