A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday morning as a 33-year-old ardent supporter of Tamil actor and politician Vijay died while on his way to attend the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) mega rally in Madurai.
The deceased, Prabhakaran, hailed from Chennai and had embarked on the overnight journey with a group of fellow supporters in a van. According to police reports, the group left late Wednesday night with high spirits, anticipating the political gathering that was expected to draw tens of thousands.
However, tragedy struck near Chakkimangalam in Madurai district when the van stopped briefly. Prabhakaran reportedly stepped out of the vehicle and didn’t return. Concerned friends found him unconscious a short distance away and rushed him to the Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital. Despite being admitted to the intensive care unit, he was declared dead shortly afterward. The hospital dean confirmed the death and said further medical examination is underway to determine the exact cause.

This somber incident coincided with TVK president Vijay’s second major state-level conference — a key political move as he prepares for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The rally was seen as a show of strength for Vijay's political outfit, drawing massive crowds from across the state.
In his address, Vijay paid tribute to late political icons such as CN Annadurai, MG Ramachandran, and Vijaykanth, signaling a vision to build TVK as a viable third front in Tamil Nadu — a state historically shaped by the dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.
Despite the celebratory mood of the event, the news of the supporter’s death cast a shadow, reminding many of the intense emotional connection fans have with the actor-turned-politician.
