Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to the Indian Armed Forces on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day, celebrated annually on December 7 since 1949. In a post on social media platform X, he lauded the courage, discipline, and unwavering devotion of the soldiers who protect the nation. He also called upon citizens to contribute generously to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, which supports war-disabled soldiers, Veer Naris, and their families.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended his greetings to the armed forces, highlighting their valour and sacrifices that safeguard the country. “Their selfless service reminds us of a debt we can never repay,” Singh said in his X post, urging the public to support the Flag Day Fund and strengthen those who protect India. The minister emphasized the importance of national solidarity in backing the welfare of military personnel.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan also conveyed his greetings, acknowledging the indomitable spirit, dedication, and significant contributions of soldiers, veterans, and Veer Naris. He noted that their service underpins India’s defence preparedness and national security, reflecting both commitment and resilience in challenging circumstances.

Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth joined the leaders in celebrating the day, highlighting the symbolic hoisting of the Armed Forces Flag by Brigadier D.S. Basera, Secretary of the Central Soldiers’ Board. Seth urged citizens to participate actively in the campaign, stressing that public contributions directly aid the welfare of soldiers, ex-servicemen, and their dependents.
Armed Forces Flag Day, first observed in 1949, is a nationwide initiative aimed at honoring the military and raising funds for the welfare of war-disabled personnel and their families. Tiny flags are distributed to the public to collect donations, reinforcing the nation’s collective responsibility toward those who serve.
