Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious Amaravati greenfield capital project is set for a grand relaunch this month, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi slated to restart construction works worth Rs 1 lakh crore.

Chief Secretary K Vijayanand dropped the bombshell during a meeting with a Singapore government delegation at the Secretariat on Wednesday, signaling a new chapter for the stalled capital city vision.

Joined by Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Commissioner K Kanna Babu, Vijayanand urged Singapore to renew its support, harking back to its pivotal role between 2014 and 2019. “The Prime Minister will visit in April to resume Amaravati’s construction,” he announced, outlining plans to lay foundation stones and inaugurate key developments.

The Southeast Asian city-state, once a cornerstone partner, met with CRDA and municipal officials to explore rekindling ties, with representative Francis Chong pledging efforts to collaborate.

Funding, a perennial hurdle, is no longer a concern. Vijayanand emphasized robust backing from the World Bank, HUDCO, and the Asian Development Bank, ensuring a war chest for the 217 sq km project. CRDA Commissioner Babu detailed rapid progress, with tenders already floated for the government complex, trunk roads, and other infrastructure.

“There’s no shortage of resources,” he assured, painting a picture of a city rising swiftly from blueprints.

The relaunch marks a turning point for Amaravati, envisioned as a futuristic hub but mired in delays since political shifts in 2019. With Modi’s visit, Andhra Pradesh aims to reclaim its dream capital, blending global partnerships and massive investment.
