In a major push toward strengthening urban infrastructure, the Telangana government on Friday announced the release of ₹2,780 crore for developmental works across 138 municipalities. The funding excludes areas under the Telangana Core Urban City jurisdiction and aims to accelerate civic and infrastructural projects across the state. Officials confirmed that a total of 2,432 projects will be executed through allocations from the State Budget and the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF).
As per the state’s allocation plan, newly formed municipalities will each receive ₹15 crore, while existing towns that have integrated nearby gram panchayats will get ₹20 crore each to support rapid expansion and civic upgrades. Meanwhile, older municipalities are also set to receive ₹15 crore, and newly created municipal corporations will be granted ₹30 crore apiece to expedite city-level projects and meet growing infrastructure demands.
The Municipal Administration Department has issued specific guidelines on the utilization of these funds. The works will primarily focus on improving internal roads, drainage systems, junction redesigns, culverts, and public parks, alongside measures for pollution control in local water bodies. These initiatives are intended to enhance liveability and address long-pending civic issues in fast-growing urban areas.
