RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav came out swinging against the BJP-led NDA on Wednesday, slamming their call for a five-hour Bihar bandh as a desperate act of "impure and insincere politics". The bandh, set for Thursday from 7 am to noon, protests alleged insults hurled at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother during the Congress-led Voter Adhikar Yatra, a 1,300-kilometre march across 25 Bihar districts.
Yadav, who joined Rahul Gandhi on the yatra, mocked the NDA’s move, pointing out the irony of a ruling coalition calling for a shutdown. “They’re in power, yet they’re disrupting the state. The bandh will only shut schools, but I guess that’s fine since it happens when the PM visits,” he quipped, highlighting the yatra’s success as the real reason for the NDA’s unease.
The bandh, backed by the women’s wings of NDA allies, follows a controversial incident in Darbhanga, where a 25-year-old local was arrested for shouting expletives during the yatra. The Congress-led INDIA bloc clarified the individual was not affiliated with their parties. Yadav seized the moment to call out the PM’s emotional response to the incident, accusing him of selective outrage. “He was all smiles abroad, but back home, it’s time to shed tears,” Yadav said, questioning Modi’s sincerity.

The RJD leader didn’t hold back, accusing the PM of hypocrisy. “Where was this sensitivity when he made crude remarks about a Rs 50 crore girlfriend or insulted Sonia Gandhi and Nitish Kumar?” Yadav thundered, pointing to BJP MLAs’ abusive behaviour in the assembly. “Nobody supports insulting anyone’s mother, but the BJP have a lot to answer for their own crude conduct.”
With emergency services exempted, the bandh aims to minimise public inconvenience, but Yadav’s fiery remarks have set the stage for a heated political showdown in Bihar.
