An 18-year-old girl was stabbed in the abdomen by a 24-year-old acquaintance in northeast Delhi’s New Mustafabad area on Thursday evening, police confirmed on Friday. The victim is currently receiving treatment at GTB Hospital, where doctors described her condition as serious but stable.
According to police sources, the attacker, identified as Jahan, had been persistently harassing the girl for days. The incident occurred when the girl was returning from a local market to her brother’s residence. Jahan confronted her on Mangal Bazar Road in the Dayalpur area and attacked her after she refused his advances again. “Based on sustained efforts and surveillance inputs, the accused was traced and apprehended within hours of the incident. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and the knife used in the attack was recovered,” said a police officer.

Investigations revealed that Jahan knew the girl previously, and despite her attempts to distance herself, he continued to pester her for a relationship. The victim’s family had earlier filed a complaint at the Dayalpur Police Station, but the issue was reportedly resolved informally at that time. Jahan has been booked under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempted murder. Police continue to investigate the case.
