S. Keerthana has emerged as the youngest minister in Tamil Nadu’s newly formed cabinet, while also being the only woman minister in Chief Minister Vijay’s first Council of Ministers. The 29-year-old leader was sworn in during a ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, following her electoral victory from the Sivakasi Assembly constituency on a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam ticket.
Hailing from Virudhunagar district, Keerthana comes from a modest academic background and rose through strong educational credentials. She studied in a Tamil-medium government school before completing a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Madurai Kamaraj University and later an M.Sc. in Statistics from Pondicherry University. Her academic journey, combined with her early exposure to grassroots issues, has been highlighted as a key factor in her rapid political rise.
Before entering electoral politics, S. Keerthana worked as a political consultant and digital strategist with Showtime Consulting. She also gained experience working behind the scenes in campaign strategy, including contributing to organisational and social media planning for political campaigns. Her role in designing communication frameworks and grassroots outreach strategies reportedly helped her gain visibility within party circles.

During the recent election campaign, Keerthana became more prominent publicly, especially due to her multilingual communication skills. She is fluent in several languages, including Hindi, which sparked discussion after she chose to address audiences in Hindi following her electoral win. In Tamil Nadu, where language identity remains a sensitive issue, her decision drew mixed reactions but was explained as an effort to ensure wider outreach of her party leader’s message beyond the state.
After her election victory, Keerthana also made remarks emphasising political courage, stating that leaders should not be intimidated by factors such as money or caste influence. Her statements were seen as aligned with the reformist tone projected by the new government under Vijay, which has positioned itself as a youthful alternative in state politics following its recent electoral success.
Her appointment as the sole woman minister among nine initial cabinet members has been viewed as a notable feature of the new administration. Alongside her age—making her the youngest minister in the state—her elevation is being seen as part of a broader strategy of bringing younger leadership into governance under the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government, signalling a shift towards a more youth-driven political structure in Tamil Nadu.
