Students at Jamia Millia Islamia staged protests on Tuesday against a “Yuva Kumbh” programme organised on campus to mark 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The demonstration drew participation from multiple student groups, while heavy police deployment was reported outside the university premises to maintain order.
The protest was led in part by the All India Students' Association (AISA), which strongly opposed the programme, declaring that the RSS had “no place” on the campus. In a statement, AISA criticized the organization’s historical role and accused it of using nationalism as a political tool, reflecting broader ideological opposition among sections of the student body.
The “Yuva Kumbh” event is part of a series of programmes being organised nationwide to commemorate the RSS’s centenary year. However, students at Jamia raised objections to hosting such an event within a central university, arguing that it was inappropriate and potentially divisive in an academic setting. Protesters gathered on campus, raised slogans, and demanded that the programme be cancelled.

The Students' Federation of India (SFI) had also earlier objected to the event, describing the administration’s decision to grant permission as a “provocation.” The group expressed concerns about the implications of holding a politically sensitive programme at a campus known for its diverse and minority student population, citing issues related to safety and inclusivity.
Authorities deployed a significant police presence outside the campus following the protests, although no major clashes were reported. University officials had not issued an official response regarding the programme or the students’ demands at the time of reporting, leaving the situation unresolved. The incident underscores Jamia’s continued role as a focal point for student activism in India’s capital. The university has witnessed several politically charged demonstrations in recent years, and the latest protest reflects ongoing tensions around ideological events organised within academic institutions.
