A man dressed as Spiderman learned a costly lesson after being fined Rs 15,000 for performing dangerous motorcycle stunts on a busy Rourkela street in Odisha. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, saw the individual, identified as 21-year-old Anil Sahu, riding without a helmet, overspeeding, and using a modified silencer that produced a loud, disruptive sound, causing chaos for other motorists and pedestrians.
Traffic police swiftly intervened, stopping Sahu after spotting his reckless behavior on the crowded road. During questioning, he failed to provide a valid justification for his actions, which authorities believe were aimed at gaining social media attention, as suggested by viral videos circulating on platforms like X. His motorcycle, a modified Pulsar, was seized, and a challan was issued for multiple violations under the Motor Vehicles Act, including riding without a helmet (Rs 1,000 fine), exceeding speed limits (Rs 5,000), and using an illegal silencer (Rs 9,000).
The stunt, performed in a full Spiderman costume, drew significant attention, with clips showing Sahu weaving through traffic and attempting wheelies. Posts on X condemned the act, with users like @OdishaNews calling it a “dangerous trend” endangering public safety. The incident follows a similar case in Delhi, where a couple dressed as Spiderman and Spiderwoman were arrested for unsafe bike stunts in April 2024.
