The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several south Bengal districts from July 23 to July 27, 2025, triggered by a low-pressure system expected to form over the north Bay of Bengal around July 24. The affected districts include South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram, and Hooghly, according to an IMD bulletin released on July 21.
In north Bengal, heavy rainfall is forecast for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar between July 25 and July 27. The IMD also predicts light to moderate rain across all West Bengal districts until July 27. The bulletin noted that Balurghat recorded the state’s highest rainfall in the past 24 hours, measuring 45 mm as of 8:30 am on Monday.
Residents are advised to stay alert and follow local advisories as the monsoon intensifies.
