The devastating Kurnool bus accident in Andhra Pradesh has shaken the nation, leaving around 20 people dead and several others injured. The bus, carrying over 40 passengers, collided with a two-wheeler and caught fire, resulting in a horrifying scene that has prompted widespread outrage and grief across the country. Expressing anguish over the tragedy, actor Sonu Sood took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to urge Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to take immediate measures for improving passenger safety in luxury buses.
“Every luxury bus must have a manual emergency door — not just electronic ones that can fail in critical moments,” Sood wrote, emphasizing that operators should be required to upload proof of compliance before renewing their permits. He appealed to the minister and the Ministry of Road Transport to act swiftly and enforce the safety regulation within a month.
The actor’s heartfelt plea comes amid a growing chorus of voices demanding accountability and improved safety infrastructure in the nation’s public transport system. Earlier, actors Vishnu Manchu and Mohan Babu also expressed deep sorrow over the accident, extending condolences to the families of the victims and praying for the injured. Both called the incident “heart-wrenching” and highlighted the urgent need to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his condolences, expressing sorrow over the loss of lives and announcing an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh for the families of each victim and ₹50,000 for the injured from the PM’s National Relief Fund. As the nation mourns the victims, Sonu Sood’s forceful message stands as a plea for stronger road safety regulations to ensure that such horrific incidents never repeat.
