Sandeep Pathak, who recently left the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, is facing the possibility of arrest in Punjab after two FIRs were reportedly registered against him. According to reports, the cases involve non-bailable offences, making the matter politically significant as well as legally serious. The development has quickly become a major talking point because Pathak was one of the prominent Rajya Sabha MPs to leave AAP during a period of internal turbulence. His switch to the BJP was already seen as a setback for the Kejriwal-led party, and the latest legal action has added another layer of controversy.
Reports said the Rajya Sabha MP left his official residence in New Delhi on Saturday as news of the FIRs emerged. Security presence outside the residence was reportedly increased, while visuals showed him departing through the rear side of the property and leaving in a vehicle. Sources further claimed that his phone had been switched off and that he had moved to an undisclosed location. These developments have fuelled speculation over whether he is attempting to secure immediate legal protection before Punjab Police take any further steps in the case.
The BJP is also reported to have activated its legal team to assist Pathak and explore possible remedies. If the offences listed in the FIRs are indeed non-bailable, legal intervention could become crucial in the coming hours. Political observers believe the matter may soon move to the courts, especially if any arrest attempt is made. The episode has already intensified the confrontation between AAP and BJP, with both sides likely to frame the issue as either a lawful action or a politically motivated move.

Pathak was among seven Rajya Sabha MPs who announced their exit from AAP last month and later aligned with the BJP. The group included Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Swati Maliwal and Vikramjit Sahney. Except Maliwal, the others represented Punjab in the Rajya Sabha, making the exits particularly damaging for AAP in the state. Their departure signalled a dramatic political shift and reshaped the party’s parliamentary strength.
The latest controversy surrounding Sandeep Pathak is expected to have wider political implications in Punjab and beyond. If the case escalates, it could become a flashpoint between the ruling and opposition camps, especially with elections and political realignments continuing across several states. For now, all attention remains on whether Pathak appears before investigators, seeks court protection, or responds publicly to the allegations. The coming days are likely to determine whether this remains a legal dispute or grows into a larger national political battle.
