Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday inaugurated and laid the foundation for multiple development projects in Ujjain, including the Hariyakhedi water augmentation scheme worth over Rs 1,133 crore. The projects aim to modernize city infrastructure and improve public welfare.
During the event, CM Yadav also launched a maternal and child nutrition project with a digital initiative, reflecting the government’s focus on health and nutrition. He later visited an exhibition at the Kalidas Academy, detailing the scope of the water augmentation project for public awareness.
The water project will see the construction of 17 new overhead tanks with capacities ranging from 600 to 3,000 kilolitres. Additionally, a 708-km pipeline and a 534-km new distribution network will be developed, ensuring Ujjain’s water supply until 2055, the Chief Minister said.

In a separate initiative, CM Yadav distributed laptops to top-performing students under ‘Project Swadhyay’ and provided wireless devices and kits to sanitation inspectors and workers, highlighting the government’s emphasis on education and sanitation.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the five-day ‘Mahakal Van Mela’ at Dussehra Ground, Ujjain, themed “Prosperous forests, happy people”. The event includes exhibitions of forest produce, Ayurvedic medical consultations, buyer-seller meets, cultural programs, and traditional food stalls.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to Divisional Forest Officers, forest guards, and district union representatives for their contributions. This marks the first time Ujjain is hosting a Van Mela, underscoring the government’s focus on forest conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and public engagement.
