The Railway Protection Force (RPF) under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) rescued 16 runaway children across Assam in just one week, from August 16 to August 22, 2025, bringing the year’s total to an impressive 843 rescues. The NFR announced this milestone on Friday, highlighting the RPF’s relentless efforts to protect vulnerable minors and combat trafficking in the region.
Operating across trains and railway stations in Assam and beyond, RPF personnel ensured the safe recovery of these 16 minors, promptly handing them over to Child Line organizations, NGOs, or their guardians after proper verification. The rescues took place at various locations, including Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Katihar, Purnea, Kokrajhar, and Alipurduar, showcasing the RPF’s extensive reach and commitment.
The NFR’s statement detailed that from January to July 2025, the RPF rescued 738 runaway children and 89 kids and women from potential trafficking situations, while apprehending nine traffickers. This year’s efforts underscore the RPF’s critical role in safeguarding at-risk individuals. Specific rescues included two children saved during a train escort on August 16, handed over to Child Lines in Bongaigaon and Chirang, and a minor boy rescued in Dibrugarh on the same day. On August 17, Dimapur’s RPF saved another minor, ensuring his safety through Child Line.

Each child was carefully transferred to Child Lines or guardians after identity verification, ensuring their safe return.
This string of rescues highlights the RPF’s proactive approach and coordination with local authorities and NGOs. As Assam grapples with challenges like child trafficking and runaways, the RPF’s efforts offer hope, reuniting families and protecting the vulnerable. With 843 rescues in 2025 alone, the NFR’s security forces are setting a powerful example of dedication to public safety.
