The flyover under construction at Ranasthalam junction on National Highway 16 is expected to be completed within the next six months, potentially making travel between Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam smoother. The project is being built at one of the important junctions on the highway, which forms part of the major Chennai-Kolkata corridor. Faster completion of the project is expected to reduce traffic-related delays at the busy junction.

Srikakulam District Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar and other district officials have been holding regular meetings with officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to monitor the progress of the project. The meetings are aimed at resolving issues that could delay construction and ensuring that work progresses according to schedule. Officials are focusing on completing the infrastructure at the earliest so that motorists can benefit from improved traffic movement.

The proposed flyover will stretch for around 1.5 km and is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹250 crore. The project is considered significant because Ranasthalam is an important junction along NH-16, which carries traffic between major cities on the eastern coast. Once operational, the flyover is expected to allow through traffic to move more efficiently while reducing congestion at the junction.

The existing junction handles traffic travelling between Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam as well as vehicles using the longer Chennai-Kolkata highway corridor. Traffic volumes on NH-16 can increase delays at major intersections, particularly when vehicles have to slow down or stop at busy junctions. The flyover is intended to separate through traffic from local movements and improve the overall efficiency of the route.

The district administration’s regular coordination with the NHAI reflects the importance attached to completing the project within the targeted timeframe. Monitoring construction progress and addressing administrative or technical issues promptly are expected to remain key priorities over the coming months. Officials are hopeful that continued coordination will help prevent unnecessary delays and keep the work on schedule.

If completed as anticipated, the Ranasthalam flyover could provide considerable relief to motorists travelling between Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam and improve connectivity along NH-16. The project is also expected to strengthen the efficiency of an important highway corridor connecting Chennai and Kolkata. With construction progressing rapidly and officials maintaining regular oversight, the flyover is likely to become an important addition to the region’s road infrastructure within the next six months.
