Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday paid tribute to Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Educationist Madan Mohan Malaviya, calling them “true statesmen,” during an event at the Delhi Assembly. The ceremony included the unveiling of portraits of the two national icons in the Assembly House.
On the occasion, Singh, along with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, released a coffee table book titled Bharat Mata, showcasing Indian nationalism through painting, architecture, and literature. The publication commemorates 150 years of the National Song Vande Mataram and highlights the artistic expressions of India’s national consciousness.
Addressing the gathering, Singh emphasized the enduring relevance of Vajpayee and Malaviya’s ideals, urging citizens to view education as a tool for national development and politics as a means of public service. He praised Vajpayee for maintaining democratic values and unity despite political differences.

Singh also highlighted Malaviya’s contributions to education and nation-building, noting that Vajpayee was a “true successor” of Malaviya’s principles. He said both leaders exemplified humility, vision, and dedication to the nation, serving as guiding inspirations for future generations.
CM Gupta recounted an anecdote demonstrating Malaviya’s character during the establishment of Banaras Hindu University, showing his wisdom and ability to navigate challenges with integrity. She noted that such stories reflect the magnitude of his personality and enduring influence on India’s educational landscape.
The event concluded with a patriotic cultural programme by artists from Sahitya Kala Parishad, reflecting India’s rich artistic heritage. Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta and Legislative Affairs Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, among other dignitaries, also attended, emphasizing the Assembly’s commitment to honoring the nation’s historical and cultural icons.
