Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said that Operation Sindoor reflects a decisive shift in India’s counter-terror approach, marking a transition from diplomatic responses to concrete military action against terrorism. He said the operation sent a clear global message that India will no longer limit itself to issuing statements when faced with terror attacks on its soil.
Addressing a National Security Summit in New Delhi, Singh said the Narendra Modi-led government has moved beyond intent and rhetoric to demonstrate its commitment through firm operational responses. He asserted that India’s national security doctrine is now guided by a principle of zero tolerance towards terrorism under any circumstances, and that this position has been consistently reinforced through actions such as surgical strikes, airstrikes, and Operation Sindoor.
The Defence Minister described Operation Sindoor as a significant example of coordination among India’s armed forces, calling it a demonstration of joint operational capability. He said the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force worked in close synergy under a unified plan, reflecting a shift from siloed operations to an integrated defence structure. According to him, this evolution has strengthened India’s position as a more coordinated and capable military power.

Singh also used strong language while referring to Pakistan’s role in terrorism, stating that while both countries gained independence at the same time, India is now globally recognised for “Information Technology,” whereas Pakistan has become associated with “International Terrorism.” He said this contrast highlights the different developmental and strategic paths taken by the two nations over the decades.
Explaining the operational nature of the mission, the Defence Minister said India executed Operation Sindoor on its own terms, choosing both the timing and scope of action. He added that the operation was halted only after objectives were achieved, not due to any limitation in capability. Singh emphasised that India retained full readiness to escalate if required, with sufficient capacity to sustain prolonged engagements if necessary.
Reiterating the government’s stance, Singh said India will continue to respond firmly to any act of terrorism and will not be deterred by external pressures. He said the country’s evolving defence posture reflects greater preparedness, rapid mobilisation capability, and a stronger integrated command structure, all aimed at ensuring national security in an increasingly complex global environment.
