In a strategic shift, the Voter Adhikar Yatra, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Mahagathbandhan allies, will now culminate in a high-energy march through Patna on September 1, 2025, instead of the originally planned rally. Congress sources indicate that the alliance opted for a padyatra finale to sustain the campaign’s momentum and generate greater public enthusiasm, given the significant participation of INDIA bloc leaders throughout the 16-day journey.
Launched on August 17 from Sasaram, the 1,300-km yatra protests the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls, which the opposition alleges enables “vote theft” by disproportionately removing names of marginalized voters. Covering over 20 districts, including Gaya, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Munger, Katihar, Purnea, Madhubani, and Darbhanga, the yatra will also traverse Sitamarhi, West Champaran, Saran, Bhojpur, and Patna before concluding.
On August 27, Rahul Gandhi, alongside RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, rode motorcycles through Muzaffarpur’s streets, with Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra riding pillion, drawing crowds of supporters. The yatra has seen participation from prominent INDIA bloc figures, including Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin, DMK’s Kanimozhi, and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, amplifying its impact.

Initially, a mega rally at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan was planned to unite alliance leaders, as announced by Congress leader K.C. Venugopal, to “send a clear message to drive away the vote chors.” However, the alliance decided a march would better reflect the yatra’s grassroots spirit. With Bihar’s assembly elections looming, the yatra has sparked a national conversation on electoral integrity, challenging the Election Commission and the BJP-led government.
