Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has postponed any decision on a potential leadership change in Karnataka's Congress government following reports highlighting possible negative repercussions. Sources indicate that inputs from election strategist Sunil Kanugol and others have cautioned against altering the current setup at this juncture, prompting Rahul to maintain the status quo for now.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has yet to secure a meeting with Rahul, while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's supporters, including MLC BK Hariprasad and Minister KJ George, recently met the Leader of Opposition to argue against any shift in the chief ministerial position. RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge also held discussions with Rahul, though details of their conversation remain undisclosed.
AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge recently clarified that leadership confusion exists only within the state unit and not at the high command level. With general secretaries KC Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala preoccupied in Kerala and Haryana respectively, the responsibility for resolving Karnataka's power-sharing dynamics rests primarily with Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul is scheduled to attend the Congress Working Committee meeting in Delhi on December 27 before departing for a Europe trip, returning only after January 10. Consequently, no decisions on cabinet reshuffle or chief ministerial change are expected until his return, allowing Siddaramaiah to continue in office and potentially surpass D Devaraj Urs's record as the longest-serving Congress chief minister on January 6.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to travel to Delhi on Friday evening to meet senior party leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, on the sidelines of the CWC meeting. While discussions on state projects are anticipated, sources suggest he will avoid raising leadership issues during this visit and may seek approval for a cabinet reshuffle after Rahul's return.
