President Droupadi Murmu on Friday highlighted the Centre’s commitment to the inclusive and sustainable development of Manipur, stressing that tribal welfare remains a national priority. Speaking at a function in the Naga tribal-inhabited Senapati district, she inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple developmental projects aimed at improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare. The President emphasized that the government is working closely with local leaders, civil society groups, and communities to ensure growth reaches every corner of the state.
Highlighting Manipur’s rich diversity, President Murmu said, “The hills and the valley have always complemented each other like two sides of the same beautiful land.” She urged all communities to continue fostering peace, understanding, and reconciliation, underlining that the government prioritizes the dignity, security, and socio-economic growth of tribal populations. Special attention is being given to remote tribal regions to accelerate development and empower local communities.
The President referenced the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) scheme, launched in November 2023, aimed at uplifting Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). She expressed confidence that the mission’s initiatives—including housing, clean drinking water, healthcare, education, connectivity, and skill development—would significantly improve living standards. In Manipur, the Maram Naga tribe is recognized as the state’s only PVTG, and the government has committed to addressing their concerns and aspirations for a prosperous future.

President Murmu also highlighted recent investments in the hill districts, citing improvements in national highways, rural roads, healthcare, drinking water, electricity, and educational infrastructure. Various livelihood programs have been implemented to enhance the quality of life for tribal communities, reflecting the government’s focus on sustainable development while preserving cultural identity. The projects inaugurated are expected to strengthen security, education, healthcare, and overall community infrastructure in the region.
During her visit, the President interacted with internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by ethnic violence, assuring them of ongoing measures to provide education, livelihood opportunities, housing, and skill training. She underscored the importance of unity, harmony, and dialogue for lasting peace and prosperity in Manipur, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring a secure and dignified life for all residents.
Earlier on Friday, President Murmu paid floral tributes at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal on the 86th Nupi Lal Day, honoring women-led uprisings against British policies. She also offered prayers at the Shree Govindaji Temple, accompanied by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. These gestures highlighted her respect for Manipur’s cultural heritage while reinforcing the message of inclusive growth and social harmony across the state.
