President Droupadi Murmu hosted Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 9, commemorating 50 years of Seychelles’ independence and five decades of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The ceremonial banquet was designed to reflect India’s rich coastal culinary traditions, highlighting ingredients and flavors from regions including Malabar, Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.
The dinner commenced with a fragrant White Pumpkin & Coconut Soup from the Malabar coast, served alongside mini idiyappam drizzled with curry-leaf oil. A trio of innovative appetizers followed, featuring Kosambari with charred pineapple, Jackfruit & Banana Blossom skewers, and mini Gujarati dhoklas, showcasing India’s coastal and regional diversity.
Pre-main courses included Karnataka-style Sorekai, Majjige Huli, Yam and Raw Banana Thoran, served with Malabari Parotta and Jolad (White Millet) Bhakri, emphasizing earthy flavors. The main course featured Batata nu Shaak, Udupi Brinjal Sukka, Paneer Tellicherry, and Mushroom & Dal Varan, accompanied by ghee-tempered rice and a variety of tangy pickles, blending comfort food with state banquet refinement.

Desserts offered a sophisticated trio: saffron and cardamom-infused Shrikhand Crème Brûlée, Khubani & Akhrot Halwa, and freshly cut strawberries. Guests were also served Nilgiri Tea, cardamom tea, and filter coffee, alongside table bites including Elaichi chocolates, Nipattu, Dahi Vada, and Pani Puri, complemented by Kokum Sharbat and fresh orange juice.
Beyond cuisine, the evening included a musical program performed by the Rashtrapati Bhavan Naval Band and classical instrumentalists, featuring Indian raagas and Seychelles’ “Si Lanmour i For,” strengthening the cultural bridge between the two nations.
President Murmu, reaffirming India’s commitment to Seychelles’ developmental and security needs, highlighted the MAHASAGAR vision and the Special Economic Package aimed at enhancing cooperation in health, education, infrastructure, and defence. Both leaders expressed confidence in deepening bilateral ties, reinforcing shared security, economic, and cultural interests in the Indian Ocean region.
