Senior bureaucrat Prakash Rajpurohit has been appointed as the Deputy Election Commissioner as part of a major bureaucratic reshuffle approved by the Central government. A 2010-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer belonging to the Rajasthan cadre, Rajpurohit will hold the position until April 8, 2030, according to an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel. He succeeds Sanjay Kumar in the post.
Rajpurohit was most recently serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Defence Production. During his administrative career, he has held several responsibilities at both the central and state levels. His previous assignments include serving as a director in the Department of Economic Affairs, where he handled matters related to international investment treaties. He has also held administrative positions in Rajasthan.
His earlier roles in Rajasthan included serving as Collector of Ajmer and Commissioner of Commercial Taxes. These assignments involved district administration and tax-related responsibilities. His appointment to the Election Commission comes amid a broader reshuffle of senior government officials, with the Centre approving several appointments to joint secretary-level and equivalent positions across different ministries and government organisations.
