Patna police deployed water cannons to disperse Congress and NSUI workers marching towards the Bihar Vidhan Sabha from Sadaqat Ashram, the state Congress headquarters. The procession, aimed at highlighting issues like the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, was stopped at Raja Pul crossing, a restricted area.
According to SP Patna Central, Diksha, some protesters attempted to breach barricades, leading to minor injuries among police personnel, detentions, and an FIR being lodged.
State Congress president and MLA Rajesh Kumar criticized the Election Commission for allegedly removing 35 lakh voters’ names, claiming 98 lakh are currently disenfranchised, accusing the BJP-led NDA of orchestrating the move. The march also addressed youth issues, including unemployment-driven migration and question paper leaks in competitive exams.
The Congress, with 19 MLAs, is a key part of Bihar’s INDIA bloc alongside RJD and Left parties, amplifying these concerns in the 243-member assembly.
