A young woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a homestay near Muddenahalli in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur district, while her boyfriend was discovered unconscious at the same location and rushed to hospital for treatment. The incident came to light after authorities reached the homestay on the outskirts of Bengaluru and recovered the woman's body. Police have launched an investigation into the case, with the exact cause of the woman's death yet to be determined through a post-mortem examination.
Investigators recovered a rope and several tablets from the homestay, prompting suspicion that poison may have been consumed before the incident. However, police have not confirmed the sequence of events or the role of the recovered items, stating that forensic analysis and the post-mortem report will be crucial in establishing what occurred. Officials have said all possibilities remain open at this stage and that the investigation is being conducted from multiple angles.
The man, identified as Sanjeet Ali, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital after being found unconscious. Police are examining whether the case involves an alleged murder followed by an attempted suicide or whether the couple may have entered into a suicide pact. Investigators have emphasised that no conclusion has been reached and that the circumstances surrounding the incident will become clearer after medical and forensic reports are received.

Chikkaballapur Superintendent of Police Kushal Chowksi, along with other senior police officers, visited the homestay to inspect the scene and oversee the initial stages of the investigation. Evidence collected from the location has been sent for forensic examination, while officers are also recording statements from witnesses, homestay staff and others who may have had contact with the couple before the incident.
According to sources, the man and woman had been in a relationship for some time, but their families were reportedly opposed to it. The woman is also believed to have left her home with the same man on an earlier occasion. Investigators are examining the couple's background and personal circumstances as part of their efforts to determine whether relationship issues may have contributed to the incident.
Police said the couple had checked into the homestay on Saturday, a day before the woman was found dead. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem findings, forensic reports and the boyfriend's statement once his medical condition improves. Until then, police have urged against speculation and said the investigation will proceed based on scientific evidence and witness testimonies to establish the exact sequence of events.
