Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a unified effort between the government and India’s automobile industry to achieve complete self-reliance across the entire manufacturing value chain, aligning with the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). In a written address to the annual convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Thursday, Modi emphasized the sector’s pivotal role in driving economic growth and positioning India as a global leader in green and smart transportation.
Modi, whose message was delivered by SIAM President Shailesh Chandra, highlighted the automobile industry’s transformative impact on mobility and quality of life. “The sector has been a torchbearer of the Make in India initiative, boosting global confidence in Indian manufacturing and establishing India as a hub of automotive excellence,” he stated. He underscored the immense opportunities for investment and collaboration as India advances towards sustainable and innovative transportation solutions.
The Prime Minister praised the industry’s embrace of green technologies, including electric vehicles (EVs) and sustainable alternatives, which align with India’s clean mobility goals. “These advancements not only strengthen our environmental commitments but also open new avenues in design, production, and deployment,” Modi noted. He also commended the rise of startups in energy storage, signaling a vibrant ecosystem for innovation.

Modi highlighted the government’s role in creating a robust policy framework and implementing visionary reforms to build a future-ready transportation ecosystem. The Prime Minister also lauded SIAM’s contributions in fostering dialogue among manufacturers, researchers, and policymakers to address critical challenges like emissions, safety, and infrastructure. By aligning industrial strategies with national objectives, SIAM has played a key role in shaping India’s automotive landscape.
