Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to transform Assam’s infrastructure and healthcare landscape by unveiling development projects worth a staggering Rs 18,530 crore during a two-day visit to the state. Addressing public rallies in Darrang and Golaghat districts, Modi will lay the foundation for initiatives aimed at boosting connectivity, healthcare, and industrial growth, reinforcing Assam’s role in India’s economic and social progress.
In Darrang’s Mangaldai town, the Prime Minister will kick off his day by laying the foundation stones for a medical college, a nursing college, and a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) school, with a combined investment of Rs 570 crore. These projects are expected to significantly enhance healthcare access and medical education in the region, addressing long-standing needs in Assam’s rural areas.
Additionally, Modi will launch two major infrastructure projects: the 2.9 km-long Narengi-Kuruwa bridge, estimated at Rs 1,200 crore, and the 118.5 km-long Guwahati Ring Road, connecting Kamrup and Darrang districts in Assam with Ri Bhoi in Meghalaya, at a cost of Rs 4,530 crore. These initiatives promise to improve regional connectivity, reduce travel times, and spur economic activity.
Later, at 2:15 PM, Modi will head to Numaligarh in Golaghat district to inaugurate a groundbreaking Rs 5,000-crore bamboo-based ethanol plant with a capacity of 50 KTPA (kilo tonnes per annum) of fuel-grade ethanol. This eco-friendly facility underscores Assam’s push toward sustainable energy and is expected to create jobs while promoting green fuel production.
Additionally, Modi will lay the foundation stone for a Rs 7,230-crore Petro Fluidised Catalytic Cracker Unit, designed to produce 360 KTPA of propylene, a key component in the plastic value chain. This project is poised to bolster India’s petrochemical industry and drive economic growth in the Northeast.

The Prime Minister’s visit follows his attendance at the birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati on Saturday, where he honored the cultural icon’s contributions to Indian music and cinema. Modi’s packed schedule will conclude with public rallies in Mangaldai and Numaligarh, where he is expected to highlight the government’s commitment to Assam’s development and its strategic importance in India’s Northeast. The Prime Minister will depart for Kolkata from Jorhat airport on Sunday evening.
These projects mark a significant step in Assam’s transformation, aligning with the government’s vision of a developed Northeast. Local leaders and residents are optimistic that the new infrastructure and industrial initiatives will create jobs, improve living standards, and position Assam as a hub for sustainable development and economic growth.
