Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying homage to the security personnel who lost their lives during the terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament on December 13, 2001. On the 24th anniversary of the incident, observed on December 13, 2025, Modi joined Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and other parliamentarians from both the NDA and opposition benches in a solemn tribute at the Parliament complex.

The ceremony saw leaders from across the political spectrum unite in remembrance of the nine brave individuals—eight from Delhi Police and CRPF, plus a Parliament watch and ward staff member—who sacrificed their lives thwarting the audacious assault by five Pakistan-based terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. The attackers were neutralized, preventing a greater catastrophe at the heart of Indian democracy.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the 2001 attack as a "cowardly" assault on national sovereignty, offering humble tribute to the martyrs and affirming the nation's eternal gratitude. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari saluted the bravehearts for protecting the "temple of democracy," noting their sacrifice would always be remembered.

The Central Reserve Police Force highlighted the extraordinary valor of Constable Kamlesh Kumari of the 88th Battalion, who pursued the terrorists under heavy fire, providing critical information that aided their neutralization. Despite fatal injuries, her actions earned her a posthumous Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry award.

The attack, occurring while Parliament was in session, killed personnel including Jagdish Yadav, Matbar Singh Negi, and others whose swift response contained the threat. Annual tributes underscore their role in safeguarding democratic institutions.

This bipartisan commemoration reflects national unity in honoring the martyrs, reinforcing resolve against terrorism as India marks another anniversary of the dark day in parliamentary history.
