In a heartfelt address during the 125th episode of his monthly radio program "Mann Ki Baat," Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the widespread devastation caused by relentless floods and landslides across India. The ongoing monsoon season has wreaked havoc, submerging fields, destroying homes, and sweeping away critical infrastructure like bridges and roads, leaving countless families in distress. “These natural disasters are testing the resilience of our nation, and the suffering of our people pains every Indian,” Modi said, reflecting the collective anguish felt nationwide.
Despite the grim circumstances, Modi commended the tireless efforts of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), armed forces, and local communities in responding to the crisis. “Our brave personnel worked round the clock, leveraging advanced technology like thermal cameras, live detectors, sniffer dogs, and drones to accelerate rescue operations,” he noted.
Helicopters were deployed to deliver relief materials and airlift the injured, while doctors, social workers, and local administrations exemplified humanity by providing critical support. “I salute every citizen who stepped up in this hour of need,” Modi added, emphasizing the power of collective action.
Amid the challenges, the Prime Minister highlighted two remarkable achievements in Jammu and Kashmir that symbolize hope and progress. In Pulwama, a record crowd gathered to witness the region’s first-ever day-night cricket match, a milestone that Modi described as a testament to India’s transformative journey. “What was once unthinkable is now a reality,” he remarked.
Additionally, Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake hosted the inaugural ‘Khelo India Water Sports Festival,’ drawing over 800 athletes from across the country. Notably, women athletes matched their male counterparts in participation, showcasing gender equality in sports. “These events reflect the spirit of a new India, rising above adversity,” Modi said, congratulating all participants.
