Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to undertake a two-day visit to West Bengal later this month, during which he is expected to participate in two major public programmes, according to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Kolkata. The visit is currently awaiting final confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office, but preparations for the proposed schedule are already underway in the state.
As per the tentative plan, PM Modi is expected to visit Tarakeswar in Hooghly district on June 20 to attend an event marking “Bengal Foundation Day,” which the state government has recently decided to observe on this date. The programme is likely to be held at around 2 p.m., with a large public gathering expected in the temple town known for the Tarakeshwar shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva.
The declaration of June 20 as Bengal Foundation Day has drawn political attention in the state, as it marks a historically significant moment linked to the 1947 discussions around the partition of Bengal. BJP leaders argue that the date reflects an important milestone in the state’s political history, while the ruling Trinamool Congress has previously expressed reservations, citing the emotional and historical sensitivities associated with Partition.

According to local BJP representatives, PM Modi may also participate in additional programmes in the region on the same day, although details are yet to be finalised. After completing his engagements in Tarakeswar, the Prime Minister is expected to travel to Kolkata, where he is likely to stay overnight at Raj Bhavan before attending further events the following day.
On June 21, PM Modi is scheduled to participate in International Yoga Day celebrations in Kolkata. The proposed venue for the event is Netaji Indoor Stadium, where a large-scale yoga demonstration and public participation programme is expected to be organised. The event is part of nationwide observances of Yoga Day, which promotes physical and mental well-being through yoga practice.
BJP insiders indicate that the visit is being coordinated at multiple levels, with security and logistical arrangements being reviewed in anticipation of the Prime Minister’s arrival. If confirmed, the tour is expected to combine cultural, historical, and wellness-focused engagements, highlighting both regional significance and national-level initiatives.
