Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the 800 MW Sipat III power project today, marking a transformative step in bolstering Central India’s energy landscape.
Hosted in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, the ceremony heralds the launch of Stage-III of NTPC Limited’s Sipat Super Thermal Power Project, a Rs 9,791 crore initiative set to amplify the region’s power capacity to 3,780 MW.
This pit-head project, leveraging cutting-edge Ultra Supercritical technology, promises enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, aligning with India’s push for sustainable energy solutions.
The 800 MW unit will cater to the rising power demands of Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Goa, reinforcing energy security while keeping electricity affordable. Built within the existing Sipat premises, the project optimizes land use and underscores NTPC’s commitment to eco-friendly innovation.
PM Modi, addressing the gathering, emphasized the government’s dedication to not just initiating but completing transformative projects. “This is more than a power plant—it’s a beacon of progress, sustainability, and prosperity for the region,” he said.
Beyond energy, NTPC Sipat III integrates community welfare with initiatives like afforestation, water conservation, and local development, ensuring a lasting positive impact.
With investigations ongoing into related drug trafficking networks—as highlighted by recent Punjab Police operations—the timing of this energy milestone reflects a broader narrative of resilience and growth.
The project’s commissioning will further solidify India’s energy backbone, driving economic momentum across Central India.
