Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday described Daman as a “living example of Mini India”, highlighting the Union Territory’s growing diversity and its role as a meeting point for people from different regions of the country. Addressing a public gathering in Daman, the Prime Minister said the region reflects the cultural richness and unity that define India. He noted that people from various linguistic, social and cultural backgrounds have made Daman their home, creating a unique blend of traditions and identities.
Recalling an earlier visit, Modi said he had predicted that Daman was rapidly evolving into a miniature version of India. Referring to the crowd gathered at the event, he remarked that one side represented Bengal while the other reflected Assam, illustrating the presence of communities from across the nation. According to the Prime Minister, such diversity offers a glimpse of India’s broader cultural landscape and demonstrates the strength of national integration.
The Prime Minister thanked residents for turning out in large numbers and said their participation reflected the spirit of unity and collective progress. He emphasized that India’s strength lies in its ability to bring together people from different backgrounds while maintaining harmony and mutual respect. Modi said Daman’s multicultural character serves as an example of this national ethos and showcases the country’s inclusive identity.

Speaking about development in the region, Modi said he has visited Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli numerous times over several decades, including before becoming Gujarat’s Chief Minister and later as Prime Minister. He stated that every visit has allowed him to witness significant improvements in governance, infrastructure and public services. According to him, the pace of development has accelerated steadily, transforming the region and improving the lives of residents.
The Prime Minister said generations of local residents had long aspired to better infrastructure, healthcare facilities and educational opportunities. He noted that many of these aspirations are now being fulfilled through ongoing development initiatives. Projects launched on Friday in sectors such as connectivity, tourism, healthcare and urban development are expected to generate employment opportunities, particularly for young people, while enhancing the overall quality of life in the Union Territory.
Modi also credited the local administration and government officials for effectively implementing development programmes. He said the progress being witnessed across the region is the result of long-term planning, efficient governance and coordinated efforts at multiple levels. Reaffirming the government’s commitment to regional growth, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that Daman and the wider Union Territory would continue advancing on the path of development and prosperity in the years ahead.
