Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the unwavering determination of India’s Generation Z as the most vital asset for building a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) during the 128th episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat. He emphasized that faith in collective effort, the courage to face failure, and the resilience to rise again are fundamental to achieving success, even in difficult times.
Referring to an inspiring example, PM Modi recalled a viral video from an ISRO-organized drone competition where young participants, mostly from Gen Z, attempted to fly drones in Mars-like conditions without GPS support. These drones had to rely solely on onboard cameras and software to navigate an obstacle-filled terrain. Although many drones crashed repeatedly, a team from Pune persisted and eventually succeeded in making one drone fly for a considerable duration, showing exceptional perseverance and innovation.
Drawing parallels between this competition and India’s space journey, Modi reflected on the moment when communication with Chandrayaan-2 was lost. Although initially disappointing, Indian scientists did not lose hope; their determination led to the historic success of Chandrayaan-3. Modi said the spirit he saw in the youth competing with the drones reminded him of the grit displayed by the nation’s scientists.
