As the PM Jan Dhan Yojana marks its 11th anniversary on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the scheme as a transformative force that empowers every citizen to shape their own future. Launched on this day in 2014, this national mission on financial inclusion has connected the last mile of society to banking, driving the entire nation toward progress with universal access to financial services.
Modi emphasized the scheme’s impact in a post on X, stating, “When the last mile is financially connected, the entire nation moves forward together. PM Jan Dhan Yojana enhanced dignity and gave people the power to script their own destiny.” The initiative ensures every household has at least one basic banking account, alongside access to financial literacy, credit, insurance, and pension facilities, reshaping economic opportunities across India.
The MyGov platform echoed Modi’s sentiments, highlighting how the scheme has revolutionized banking with transparent Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) systems, women-led empowerment, and last-mile connectivity. “India’s financial revolution is powered by inclusion through innovation,” it noted, crediting the scheme for enabling mothers to save with dignity, farmers to receive support without intermediaries, and villagers to join the nation’s growth story.

Reflecting on its inception, MyGov added, “11 years ago, PM Narendra Modi promised no poor family would be excluded from banking. Jan Dhan opened doors to hope and confidence in every home.” This vision has turned financial inclusion into a tangible reality, uplifting millions by bridging the gap between rural and urban economies.
As celebrations unfold, the scheme stands as a testament to Modi’s commitment to inclusive growth, with its ripple effects continuing to strengthen India’s financial landscape.
