Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced substantial financial aid for flood-ravaged Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, including Rs 1,600 crore for Punjab and Rs 1,500 crore as immediate relief for Himachal. He conducted aerial surveys in both states and held meetings to assess damage and review relief efforts, emphasising a multi-dimensional approach for recovery, such as rebuilding homes under PM Awas Yojana, restoring infrastructure, and providing support through PMNRF and livestock kits.
In Himachal Pradesh, Modi met with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and affected families in Kangra, announcing Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The state has suffered extensive damage from cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides, with 370 deaths reported, including 205 from rain-related incidents, and economic losses estimated at Rs 4,122 crore. Additionally, 619 roads remain closed, and thousands of homes and infrastructure have been impacted.

For Punjab, facing its worst floods since 1988, Modi visited Gurdaspur and announced the aid in addition to the Rs 12,000 crore already allocated. The state has recorded 51 deaths, damage to crops on 1.84 lakh hectares, and an estimated loss exceeding Rs 13,000 crore, affecting 2,064 villages. He also extended the same ex-gratia payments and assured comprehensive rehabilitation measures.
