Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared that “certain influential individuals” were deliberately providing shelter and logistical support to absconding Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who vanished immediately after a Kerala court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea and the party hurriedly expelled him from primary membership following multiple sexual harassment and rape cases.
Vijayan revealed that police intelligence had pinpointed possible hideouts in Karnataka and that the pattern of evasion suggested professional assistance rather than an individual act of desperation. He warned that anyone found aiding the fugitive — irrespective of political or financial clout — would face stringent legal consequences and demanded that such protection cease forthwith.
Asserting that the Kerala Police had launched one of the most intensive manhunts in recent times with dedicated teams operating across state borders, the Chief Minister expressed full confidence in their ability to trace and arrest the Palakkad legislator within days, stressing that the gravity of the allegations left no room for political interference or delay in justice.

Turning the tables on the Congress, Vijayan accused the Congress leadership of rank hypocrisy for projecting the expulsion as swift action when, in reality, the party had been aware of the complaints for months yet continued to field Mamkootathil as a star campaigner; he cited multiple instances of Congress legislators convicted or jailed for sexual offences who still retain party positions of authority within the party.
Describing the survivor’s testimony as “hair-raising and indicative of extreme sexual perversion completely unacceptable from any public representative,” Vijayan said the details were so shocking that they would disturb anyone with a conscience, and reiterated that individuals accused of such depravity must be immediately removed from public life the moment credible complaints surface rather than being shielded until judicial intervention forces action.
