In what seems a bizarre series of actions from the Pakistani side, they have continued to resort to unprovoked fire along the Line of Control, despite heavy pressure on the Indian side to respond to the Pahalgam attack. One would expect that Pakistan would at least be quiet in this aftermath, but not so.
Tensions escalated along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir as the Pakistan Army engaged in unprovoked small arms firing for the eighth consecutive day on May 2, 2025.
The Defence Ministry reported that Pakistani posts targeted Indian positions in Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor, with Indian Army troops responding in a calibrated manner. Pakistan also violated the ceasefire along the International Border in Jammu’s Pargwal sector on Thursday.

The flare-up follows a deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow, where Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists, allegedly backed by Pakistan, killed 26 civilians, including 25 tourists. The attack sparked nationwide outrage, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowing to hunt down the perpetrators, granting the armed forces full operational freedom. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, briefed by the Chief of Defence Staff, met Modi to discuss military preparedness.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in a security review with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, urged decisive action against the attackers. Security forces have demolished the houses of 10 active LeT terrorists, including two in Tral and Bijbehara, to deter terrorism. The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly unanimously condemned the attack, passing a resolution on April 28. As cross-border firing persists, civilians near the LoC are preparing bunkers, fearing further escalation.
