Opposition MPs on Thursday staged a protest in the Parliament complex over two issues — the alleged police action against student protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and claims of misappropriation of donations made to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya. Members of several parties from the INDIA bloc participated in the demonstration, raising slogans and displaying placards demanding answers from the government. The protest began around 10:30 am, with opposition lawmakers gathering inside the Parliament premises while carrying banners and posters questioning the alleged use of force against students during a protest on July 20.

The MPs demanded accountability over who authorised the reported police action and raised concerns over the handling of student demonstrations. During the protest, lawmakers raised slogans including “chadhawa chor, gaddi chor”, “grih mantri sadan mein aao”, and “who gave the order”. The slogans were directed at the government over the issues of student protests and the allegations surrounding temple donations. The protesting MPs also carried a donation box, into which they were seen placing money as a symbolic gesture to highlight their allegations regarding the alleged theft of donations made to the Ram temple.

The opposition has accused authorities of failing to address concerns related to the reported misappropriation of offerings, though the allegations have been disputed. The MPs stood behind a large banner that read “Who gave the order”, referring to allegations that security personnel used excessive force during a recent student protest linked to the NEET paper leak issue. Opposition parties have been demanding clarification from the government over the circumstances surrounding the police action.

The demonstration took place ahead of the Rajya Sabha’s consideration of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. The proposed legislation is aimed at addressing unfair practices in public examinations, including measures to prevent paper leaks and other forms of malpractice. The opposition’s protest also followed a demonstration by Samajwadi Party MPs, led by party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who had staged a protest at Makar Dwar a day earlier over allegations of theft and misuse of offerings made at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.

The ruling party and temple authorities have rejected allegations of wrongdoing and maintained that donations and temple-related activities are managed according to established procedures. The claims raised by opposition leaders are expected to remain a point of political debate in Parliament. The protests reflect broader political tensions between the government and opposition parties over issues involving student concerns, examination irregularities and religious institution-related allegations. With Parliament’s ongoing session witnessing several confrontations between treasury and opposition benches, both sides are continuing to press their positions on key issues.
